Kitchen Design Trends 2014 - Part 1

The Mogul is sure that many kitchen designers have been in a situation where the client brief is a little hazy.  Many clients undergo a personal style struggle, the classic situation of wanting a contemporary, fashion statement kitchen for now but fearing that it will be prone to premature aging.  This design phenomenon has subtly created a new trend, a hybrid kitchen that creates a balance between design longevity and being stylishly hip! 

This design is an example of a contemporary classic kitchen.  The lines here are linear and some fussy traditional details like cornicing have been removed, but the whole look has been softened by integrating a traditionally profiled door.  In this example we see the next level of integration as the door profiles are mixed allowing the design to be predominantly contemporary while tentatively dipping its plinth into traditional water!

It is also interesting to see how the islands contrasting worktop has been cut short allowing a colour matched material to pollute the look.  This feature breaks some unspoken rules and gives this design a real edge!  Love it!

Battle of Isengard Kitchen

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and sometimes real beauty can only be uncovered by looking beneath the surface.  Contemporary kitchens have been criticised for being cold and heartless but this little gem balances the scale, making us reflect on how the world was before high gloss lacquer and standard doors sizes!

To those in the audience who believe that creating a bespoke kitchen involves introducing an off size wine rack into the design; please pay attention!  This is a truly bespoke kitchen.   we totally understands that this design will not appeal to the masses; in-fact we can almost hear the horrified gasps as your retina focuses on the screen!  But this is a kitchen that has been pondered over, a beloved creation that was inspired by the architectural structure into which it would be placed long before the teeth of any saw blade touched the drying sap of the alder wood! 

Look at the detailing on the doors and appreciate the precision and thought that has created the corner base unit in this kitchen.  Custom shaped doors  meeting at an opposing angle...difficult to get right!

we thinks that this is a great display of bespoke cabinet making but does feel that the design lacks contrast and is very overpowering.  The amount of wood used here is likely to encourage an uprising amongst trees reminiscent of scenes from the battle of Isengard, from the Lord of the Rings trilogy!

Hidden Power

This design is simple and elegant providing us with a snapshot of contemporary kitchen style.  In this instance the kitchen doesn’t dominate the architecture, imposing itself with multiple layers of cabinetry; it only needs to present a subtle opportunity for function while seamlessly flowing into the living space. This design is even light enough to dress the architecture without having to touch the ground. 

Using only four visible drawer fronts at the main cooking and cleaning zone conceals the functionality of this design, and just like a swan gliding across a crystal clear lake the power and effort of this concept is hidden beneath the surface only to be revealed when needed.

we loves this one...the splash of colour on the wall really helps this design shine!
